The benefits of wellbeing coaching
Why coaching for wellbeing?
Research shows that employers taking a proactive approach to workplace wellbeing and mental health create workplaces where everyone can thrive, with evidence linking wellbeing coaching to increased employee engagement and productivity.
At the time of writing, the work landscape is in flux but the CIPD annual survey on Health and Wellbeing presents some interesting points that cover this exceptional time, as well as providing some more general data on overall employee wellbeing outside a pandemic.
Preventing burnout
It has long been our view that investing in wellbeing coaching helps to prevent stress and burnout, and that creating an environment that nurtures and supports benefits staff. Indeed, it has never been more important to have a strategic approach to wellbeing. 2020 and 2021 have taken a huge toll on our mental health, at home and at work. Prioritising workplace wellbeing demonstrates an employer’s commitment to the whole person. Empowering staff with skills that can mitigate negativity from outside influences that can cause distress, should be a key part of your focus as an employer. Keeping them safe and providing them with resources that help them to manage their own wellbeing will have benefits for everyone. The CIPD survey of April 2021 showed that coached participants reported feeling more relaxed, more useful at work and had an increased ability to think clearly.
Healthy work-life balance
In a wider context, the results indicated that coaching also helped coachees to improve their ability to deal with problems well, cope with the unexpected and to feel closer to other people in their workplace. These findings clearly demonstrate that happy people make for a happier organisation. A healthy work-life balance positively impacts talent retention, helps you reduce staff absences and boosts employee satisfaction. And a safe space to address any challenges they might be facing and explore how best to overcome them, develops a vital sense of self-awareness and accountability.
